Faculty & Visiting Scholars

Our faculty has drawn on their experience of research and teaching with institutes all over the world and in Hong Kong, to address the learning and developmental needs of educators and students.


 
Mr Charles Cheng, CA
B. Comm. (Mount Allison), M. Div. (U. Toronto)

Mr Cheng started his career working for Deloitte & Touché in Toronto, Canada where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Upon qualification, he joined the Royal Bank of Canada’s internal audit department. During his time working as a professional in the business field, Mr Cheng developed a passion for working with people and decided to enroll in a Master of Divinity programme to study counseling, pastoral care, and spirituality. Afterwards, he worked with numerous adults and youths over a number of years enhancing their emotional intelligence in the context of counseling and relationship management. He also worked as a supply minister leading congregation worships for a number of years. Mr Cheng has held training workshops in Canada and Hong Kong. He contributes emotional intelligence articles for a university leadership programme on a monthly basis and coaches individuals for the development of their emotional intelligence.


 
Mrs Clare Cheung
M.Ed. in Language in Education

Mrs Cheung has substantial knowledge of, and experience in, the local education system, having worked for a good many years as Panel Head of Literature at top EMI schools. She is a teacher of Literature in English, Use of English, English Language (HKAL, HKAS, HKCEE). Further, she had served extensively on committees in HKEAA and CDC. She has mentored student teachers both school-based and recently in her capacity as part-time lecturer with HKU Faculty of Education.


 
Mr Clement Chung
M. Fin (RMIT), Executive Program (Harvard), Management (Tsinghua), Teaching for Understanding (Harvard)

Mr Chung started his career at Grant Thornton and later joined Reuters as financial application specialist. Clement held senior management positions at Sun Hung Kai &Co, PCC Skyhorse and Vision Century before joining Wiseman in 2003.

Clement provided training for HK Society of Accountants (HKSA), HK Securities Institute, Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). He was Program Director for Crimson Summer Exchange in 2007. He also held training workshops for EMI &CMI schools, ThinkSeries Leadership, Small World Project.


 
Ms Therese Condit
B.A. Music (Miami), M.Ed. (Harvard)

Ms Condit studied music from a young age and has always been fascinated by musical traditions and culture. She has years of experience teaching piano, as well as playing in jazz &classical ensembles, including a Balinese Gamelan Orchestra at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her explorations have led her to a strong interest in film and community media. She currently works with the Cambridge Community Television Station in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as production intern, youth media specialist and music composer. Therese also manages a fellowship program at Harvard College, where she works closely with faculty and students to produce educational technologies and media for Harvard courses. During her time at Harvard she worked closely with Professor Doris Sommer and the Cultural Agents Initiative.


 
Ms Laura Cozijnsen

Ms Cozjinsen is the Founder and Chief Consultant of Lighthouse Consultant Limited. Laura is a marketing veteran and is regularly invited by various industries and academic bodies to share on topical issues regarding marketing business practices and public speaking. Ms Cozjinsen triumphed as the Public Group Champion in both Individual and Partnership categories at the Hong Kong Master of Ceremonies Competition 2006. Since then, Ms Cozjinsen assumed the role of master of ceremonies for hundreds of Awards Ceremonies, Product Launches, and Government Forums. Ms Cozjinsen is regularly invited by industry and academic bodies as trainer and guest speaker, including Hong Kong Productivity Council, HKIM, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Hong Kong Baptist University.


 
Mr Gerard Hutching

Gerard Hutching is a New Zealander whose career combines his interests in writing and teaching. Starting off in bread and butter journalism, he has branched out to write books on subjects ranging from Rome to New Zealand's endangered birds and its geology. He also enjoys teaching English, a subject he has taught in countries as diverse as Vanuatu, Malaysia, Italy and Hong Kong.


 
Dr Qin Jiang
M.Ed. (Harvard), Ph.D.

Dr Jiang is the Instructor for the Teaching for Understanding online course at WIDE World, Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is also the coach for the Teaching for Understanding online course and China Project &International Accounts Manager at WIDE World, Harvard Graduate School of Education. Dr Jiang is a guest Instructor of English at Galveston College, Texas; City University of Hong Kong and at Fudan University, Shanghai.


 
Mr Nathan Johnston
B.Sc. (Stanford), M.Ed. (Harvard)

Mr Johnston continues to stitch together his many interests, most recently founding and directing Inside/Out, a multimedia exchange project between groups of students in California and China and the Small World Project, an ongoing workshop series piloted in Hong Kong secondary schools in the summer of 2008 and 2009. This course was designed to connect students around the globe through artistic projects and online collaborations. Mr Johnston was also a fellow for Crimson Summer Exchange in Summer 2007 (Hong Kong and Hangzhou, China).

In addition to his degreed areas of Computer Science and Arts In Education Mr Johnston also specialises in computer-aided performance, multimedia installations, ethnographic and documentary film. His work lies at the intersection of technology, culture, education, and art.


 
Mr David Peatfield
Graduate Diploma in Theatre Studies (Mountview Theatre Academy, London), B.Ed. in Drama and Media Arts (Melbourne)

Mr Peatfield is the author of numerous Drama/English textbooks for primary and secondary students. He is also an veteran teacher of Drama, Theatre Studies and English in Australia, South Korea and Hong Kong. Mr Peatfield currently holds workshops for Hong Kong English teachers focusing on the New Secondary School (NSS) Curriculum. He has developed professional development workshops in Learning English through Short Stories, Learning English through Drama and Learning English through Popular Culture. He also develops curriculum for drama and short story workshops for junior secondary students.

 
Mr Stephen Tsien Man Kit
BSc, MA

Mr Tsien was educated in Hong Kong at both Diocesan Preparatory School and Diocesan Boys' School. Thereafter, he went to U.K. to continue his secondary education at Fettes College, a boarding school which the former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, is counted as an alumnus. He gained a Bachelor Degree in Economics and Accounting at the University of Bristol, and also a Masters Degree in Finance at University of Manchester.

Mr Tsien is currently studying a Postgraduate Diploma in English Studies at the HKIED. He volunteers to teach English at Lok Sin Tong Primary School weekly as part of a project runs by the charitable organization, AccessHK. During his spare time, he also volunteer at the Home of Loving Faithfulness, which provides life-long care to severely mentally and physically disabled children and adults.
