How does it work

Enquiry Based Learning (EBL)1 develops students’ critical thinking skills and exposes them to multiple perspectives as students explore subjects that interest them. Students are inspired through a journey of enquiry, research and peer work, and use multimedia tools to produce a final video expressing their perspectives. The project engages students to think, understand, and respond in English.

Learning Objectives

  • Challenge students’ thinking
  • Develop students’ multiple perspectives
  • Connect students’ prior knowledge and extend to relevant application and real-life scenarios
  • Creatively explore and reflect upon the lives of real people at home and around the world

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop better reading, communication, thinking, understanding, presentation, IT skills and creativity through the enquiry process
  • Increase English speaking fluency and confidence
  • Greater curiosity and interest to learn
  • Develop deeper subject area knowledge and enhance their learning experience

Students will
  • Investigate on their interested subject
  • Discuss and share multiple perspectives on the subject with peers
  • Suggest and present solutions to solve a problem or improve a situation
  • Collect feedback from peers and facilitators upon group presentation
  • Produce a video* for presentation
  • Participate in the ThinkSeries Competition
* Selected projects will be show cased on ThinkSeries and Apple Inc Challenge Based Learning

Why do we provide EBL ?

When we provide EBL, students get engaged, inspired, they begin to explore. They go at their own pace. They stay focus longer.

They draw pictures, write stories, play music, make movies; they figure out how to do new things, they begin to teach each other, and even their teachers.

All these add up to one result. Students take ownership of their own learning.

They learn to solve their own challenges and answers the questions they enquire about.

And one day, they might even help us solve ours.

That's why we provide EBL.

1EBL is based on the framework of Teaching for Understanding (by David Perkins, Harvard Graduate School of Education) and Apple’s Challenge based learning (by Karen Cator, Director of the Office of Education Technology at the US Department of Education directly under the Obama administration).
